"Our results support that juvenile fishers are more vulnerable to trapping than are adult females and are overrepresented in the harvest compared with their actual occurrence in the population. Thus, variation in the harvest intensity might change the ratio of juveniles to females over 2 years old in the harvest. This ratio, however, can be affected by reproductive success, preharvest survival, and trapper behavior. Such factors should be assessed before the ratio is used for management... We found no difference by sex in nontrapping mortality of adults, however; the higher trapping mortality of adult males relative to adult females most likely caused the unequal sex ratio among adults."
