"A total of 17 fisher were released March 1 and 20, 1998. One female fisher escaped from her housing unit while in Fernie on Feb. 26th, while one female fisher was released on April 14th, once certain that she was not pregnant. Five female fisher remain in Fernie; 3 have given birth to 9 kits, while 2 have not given birth and await release. The 17 fisher were transported in their nest boxes by truck and "hard" released at predetermined location on the same day. Ten fishers were released into suitable areas adjacent to locations utilized regularly last spring and summer by radio-collared fisher, such as Jim Cr., Sundown Cr. and Gold Cr., in an attempt to reduce movements.
