Teske I.E. East Kootenay fisher reintroduction program. Year 3, Progress Report, June-October 1997 1997 Prepared for Anna Fontana, BC Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks, Cranbrook, British Columbia, November 1997.

This is a progress report for East Kootenay Fisher Reintroduction Program whose objectives are to:
1. reintroduce fisher into vacant but suitable habitat
2. expand the existing range of fisher in B.C. to support long term population viability
3. connect northern US isolated populations with healthy, and increasing populations in central B.C.
4. provide legal trapping of fisher when the Regional population is sustainable and expanding into adjoining jurisdictions.

“Fisher movements into Montana have occurred west of the Yaak River drainage 1-7 miles south of the border, and 12 miles south of the Bloom Cr. drainage by 3 fisher (2 males and 1 female). Only one male fisher has consistently used the West Yaak River area. The other two fishers primarily utilize habitats within the study area.” p. 3

“Fisher were located most often (57%) within mature forests >121 years old. Ingrowth forests, between 61 and 120 years old, were used 35% of the time, while immature habitats <60 years old were used by fisher only 8% of the time. p. 4
