Coarse woody debris (CWD): Important because it provides breaks in the snow for martens to reach below the snow surface. Downed logs were the most frequently used structure of CWD.

Management Recommendations: "CWD is an important component of marten winter habitat, and its provision and maintenance in marten habitat in managed forests of the central Rocky Mountains likely will require specific management efforts."
